The scheme to reconstruct the road surface will run into March

Hull City Council has announced an essential carriageway reconstruction scheme for Elm Avenue in Hull’s Garden Village area. As part of the council’s ongoing commitment to improving and futureproofing Hull’s road network, the work is being delivered as part of the Highways Capital Programme.
The scheme will involve excavating and fully reconstructing the carriageway to address essential repairs and ensure the road remains safe and resilient for years to come. This work will ensure the highway provides a safe, even, and skid-resistant surface for all road users to travel on.
Work will start on Monday, February 23, and will be completed on Friday, March 6, weather depending. To ensure the safety of the contractors, and the travelling public, the work will be carried out under a full road closure.
Access for residents and businesses will be maintained by foot only, with signed diversion routes in place for road users via Lilac Avenue, Chestnut Grove or Lilac Avenue, and Laburnum Avenue, depending on the direction of travel. The pedestrian footways will remain open, and bin collections are scheduled to continue as normal, with emergency access accommodated wherever it is practicable.
Affected residents and businesses will be informed via letter drop in advance of the works. Information boards will also be placed at each end of Elm Avenue informing of the access limitations.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, Hull’s portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said: “It has been identified that Elm Avenue requires immediate repair, so I’m pleased to see this work starting imminently. This work is essential, because not only does it help keep the road safe and reliable for all users, but it contributes towards our commitment to futureproofing Hull’s road network.
“I would like to apologise in advance for any disruptions these works may cause, particularly to the residents of Elm Avenue. We appreciate your patience and support as we work to improve this section of Hull’s road network.”
