A look back at the patio that I built 3 years ago, to see how it is holding up today.

  1. one really nice look is to widen the gaps and plant something like creeping thyme ,grass etc that will out-compete the weeds less plastic in the ground the better

  2. Great info and follow up, thank you. Being in New England, I was a bit skeptical about this product but would save me so much time & money not having to have truck loads of gravel and sand…not to mention moving that from the driveway to where I want to build a patio!

  3. 3 years isn't that long a time… eg weed barrier. It may work great but not really shown yet. Almost any design failing in 3 years would be flawed job

Anything also depends on load, how many people trampling, how much rain, how hot the hottest days of summer are.

  4. It looks good but the fact it doesn't line up with the window edge is a major eyesore and actually looks like a mistake of some sort

  5. I had similar success with paver panels. I was concerned about how spongy they felt before I got the pavers down, but once they were in there it was much better. Then the polymeric sand made it completely solid. I probably had even more trouble with the sand though. Maybe it's the brand I picked up, but it really doesn't seem like it has strong adhesion. Anywhere that water even slightly flows in the rain washes out.

  6. As someone who works in construction and has done landscaping on numerous jobs, I've layed out tens of thousands of sq ft of patio stones by hand. I've never heard of patio panels before, I'm used to the traditional crushed concrete and limestone on top of sand before pavers… However, I'm open to looking at other options. I think you did an amazing job, it looks fantastic and it seems like the patio panels seem to solve the issue of accidentally disturbing the sand when trying to lay out pavers.

  7. Glad everything worked out for you but if you had an existing patio you probably have a decent base already under the panels making all your updates over time kinda a moot point.

  8. If you are a novice to hardscaping i highly recommend starting out with the brock panels. once you do one or two projects with them youll understand paver installation better and can move on to other methods to install. I highly recommend them. I did my walkway with them

  9. Fantastic work and tips. Especially how you stated you could have spaced the bricks just a smidgen more apart to save on work and so many more. Nice work!

  10. many nay sayers are people in the industry upset you didn't pay them 60k to do a job that probably cost you less than 10k of materials. also there are non industry haters as always. Great job!

  11. Why would you want to spend money on so much petroleum product. Stamped concrete would have been a better idea

  12. If you pour boiling water on the entire patio, you will kill the moss and weeds at the roots. Cleaning will require less water from pressure washing, and you will wash out less poly sand (verify that the boiling water will not damage your paver base panels).

  13. Great looking patio. And maybe those comments that you got that the patio is not gonna last for more than a year is from professionals since they like to charge $4000 to do the same thing you did, just ignore those negative comments

  14. Thanks for the 3 years later review.
As for the alignment with the window, I would just ad one row of these grey stones towards your garden box.
    Well done!
