Wife and I were at work on Friday, and when we came home we found our trees completely cut down to the stump. Found out the power company was going through and trimming trees back. The tree company stated that since those trees were directly under the power lines, that they needed to cut them down further. No other trees were cut to the same point as ours.
My wife and I are very upset, as those are the only trees we have in our yard. We were wondering if there was any recourse we could take against the power company for killing those trees? 1st pic is before the “trimming”. Appreciate any advice.

They likely have a right of way under the lines. Nothing you can do to them. I suggest planting more trees outside the right of way.
This hurts to see. I’m so sorry.
Was this in the power companies easement? You can usually look up property easements in your area and see if they were allowed to do it.
Clearance not appearance. That sucks. Im sorry.
When I consulted for the utility, all removals needed to be consented. Its unfortunate that it appears to not be the case where you are.
They can. It will grow back, they’ve done mine 2 times
Im a crew foreman for a line clearance tree company. Anything 12″ or under (diameter at breast height), and directly under the lines is considered an optimal removal. Only a matter of time before those trees you had would cause a power outage. Under the power lines is not a good place for trees unfortunately.
Most likely in an easement as the power lines are above. Nothing you could do about it. You can plant new trees away from that area.
They shouldn’t have built power lines there, end of story. Sue them out of business.
(I wish….but seriously as an aside wtf even is our infrastructure here? Biden started fixing it, but ofc the retard in office now undid all that.)
Clearance not appearance:/ hate that for you though
