Long time lurker, first time poster. I am a casual home composter using kitchen scraps, selected garden refuse and, of course, piss. Question is: What should I do with things like corn cobs and avo pips? It there an easy way to break them down pre composting, skip them completely or wait it out?

Avo seeds always end up sprouting, growing all summer and then dying when it gets cold (Zone 7B). I throw them in the garbage now and just compost the avo skins.

    Just give it more time.

Some ppl sift, and return oversized bits to the new bin, others just wait.

I usually use, and bury this kind of stuff in the garden bed so i dont have to see it… Kinda let it mature in place, if i am out of compost and need some.

  3. Corn cobs remain recognizable longer than a lot of other stuff, just give them some more time. I chop them up with the shovel when I’m turning my pile.

Avocado seeds are quite resilient and can sprout if put in whole. You can let them sprout then mix them back in, or cut them up smaller (easier said than done). I usually just throw them away.
