The Leader reported earlier this week that Flintshire County Council is moving from an RFID system to yellow bin stickers for brown bin identification.

The annual subscription fee for the 2026 season remains at £38, but some residents have shared concerns and issues with the new scheme.

Sheila Williams said: “I think we had white stickers when I lived in Broughton about three years ago or so but they came off in the wet.

“Then they went to yellow plastic ties around the handle?

“Then nothing?

“I do wonder how much time/money is spent on these ideas only for them to change every year.”

Karen Bailey said: “I’ve also paid for my brown bin a few weeks ago not received any stickers.”

Penny Carter had a similar issue saying: “I paid for mine at the end of January but I’ve not had any sticker sent to me?”

Pete Edwards shared his confusion: “That’s funny, when I renewed last week online it told me I won’t get a new sticker.”

Wendy Pickup said: “I paid for 2 brown bins on 3rd Feb.

“One bin had a barcode sticker from last year but the sticker was faded.

“The other bin had no sticker because I had not paid for two bins last year.

“The lady said she would send two stickers, one for each bin.

“No stickers have arrived yet – 16 days since I paid!”

However, Les Pavitt shared: “Never had any problems with my bin collections and paid for my brown bin and she explained if you have the bar code on your bin that’s all you need very simple.”

Margaret Teague said: “I rung them yesterday as the website was down & was on hold for 57 minutes, eventually answered by an apologetic lady who said as the website wasn’t working they had a queue of people on hold & someone would ring me back which they did, so we’re all sorted I hope & she said this years new sticker would be in the post before the first collection.”

The council said the update will reduce the risk of missed collections and improve efficiency.
