Hi all, I made a post yesterday about mushroom growing at the base of my pomegranate tree. I have since received many helpful comments. Just want to say I appreciate all of them: be it from experience, professional knowledge or just pointing me to the right direction. I have learned a lot.
Since many people commented about not providing enough image and context and that I can’t edit my old post to add more image, here I created another post after mushroom removal with close -up shots of mushroom and base of trunk.
A few things I realised myself:
-
Mushroom roots( unsure whether this is the right word) are wrapped around moldy wood chips I used for mulching…I definitely mulched too close to the trunk (my mistake).
-
I have added sugar cane mulch recently on top of wood chips as they have decomposed quite a bit and not much left. This plus watering after wind burn probably provided the perfect environment for mushroom to grow….
-
I mentioned I have timber logs as space filler at bottom of raised garden bed, many of you commented about its decomposition could create fungi loving environments.
I have searched for honey mushroom or armillaria online but still couldn’t tell whether those are it or not.
In terms of action, I have removed mulch around the base of trunks and plan to observe a bit more..

Mycelium, technically. Which is really the mushroom. What we think of and use as “musrhooms: are just the reproductive parts. Most of the actual organism is caught up in those connections around the decaying material.
Since your other post has more traction, you may want to edit it to add a link to this post
