One of my first successful slab grafts is starting to look pretty cool. Set on 9/10/25, grown outdoors in zone 10a. Is grandi the best rootstock for trichos? All of my fastest growing grafts so far have been on them. Anecdotal of course considering my limited experience so far with spach, PC, tricho, and grandi as rootstock. I am growing pere too but I haven’t grafted with it yet. Only about 50 successful grafts so far but I have had such nice results with the ones on grandi. All the grandi I have topped so far I’ve rooted the tips so hopefully they will grow some and be ready for their own scion by summer. Would be interested to hear your opinions.

I’m about as experienced as you are. One of the dudes who has been mentoring me favors the Sun Goddess which seems to be closely related to the Grandi.
What I like about the SG is the spines seem to be larger and the areoles fewer, allowing me to cut the tips off easier.
I’ve used the Grandi as well. Both are very good at pumping the grafts and as a bonus, both seem to generate pups prolifically.
