Over the last 114 days I have been growing tomato plants that I buried Tums underneath to see if the Tums will cure the dreaded blossom end rot.
I was shocked by the results and I think you will be as well.

  1. I save my egg shells , grind into a fine powder. Add the powder and a handful of Epsom salt. Put the plant in the ground and surround the plant with coarse eggshells.

  2. How much rain did you get and or how much did you water those with the tums? B end rot has more to do with inconsistent watering which would or not take up the calcium

  3. I use a little gypsum and lime with each tomato which provides calcium magnesium and sulfur . They like it here in the deep southeast . Our soil is 5.5 ph so the lime doesn’t hurt .

  4. I’m relatively new in gardening last year I planted Roma tomatoes and didn’t have any issues and the harvest was great. The only thing that it took longer time to ripen compare my order tomatoe plants.

  5. WoW never would've thought of tums! I've learnt a lot from you. Esp tomatoes this year we had bad weather and toms died earlier due to extreme hot weather. Australia 🇦🇺

  6. James, I had my first Nikita's Gift persimmon, two months ago. The way I would describe the flavor would be like eating a mango, but with a natural cinnamon spice. I tasted a lot of cinnamon in my fruit.

  7. Another takeaway from this video is how incredibly they both produced despite having no fertilizer.

  8. Summer vacations have hurt my tomatoes. My grand children were to water them but they were inconsistent so some got that rot. My Romas actually did better than the other varieties. I enjoy you posts and techniques and your pronunciation of water(ing). 😊

  9. Hello again! I've got ants in my pants already and have a pencil box full of zippies with moist paper towels to stratify a bunch of seeds. Rooting (pun intended!) for the English lavender and rosemary seeds to wake up and do me a solid. Also trying to start American persimmon and beauty berry this way. It's going to be a great year in the garden!

  10. Happy to see you James. It's been a long winter. 29 days till Spring. 😁 James if the soil IS deficient in calcium wouldn't bone meal be effective too??

  11. I just throw some lime around mine, it's been helpful. For an emergency, you can get a bucket of water and let the lime dissolve, so it absorbs faster.

  12. "If your tomatoes suffer from acid indigestion, shove a coupla Tums down their throats! Or… just give them a little garden gypsum….😂
