Spring is almost here, rakes are being readied, seed trays sorted and dibbers dusted. Guildford gardeners, experienced and novice, are planning what to sow.

But seeds can be quite pricey and often, if you have a smaller garden, you have to buy more than you need.

Zero Carbon Guildford’s Seed Swap, organised by its seed bank, might be the answer for all gardeners. It is the event’s fifth year and will be held at the Trinity Centre, by Holy Trinity Church, just off the High Street, from 11am to 2pm on Sunday, March 1.

Entry is free to all, swapping is free, or if you have nothing to swap, contribute just 50p per pack that you take away.

Gardeners examine the seeds on offer at a previous Seed Swap organised by Zero.

Who can resist runner beans? Just one example of what might be on offer.

A Zero spokesperson said: “This year we will also be distributing our own local seed for the fifth time.

“Bring your in-date unwanted / half-open seed packets or saved seed and swap them for something you do want.

“Children and dogs are welcome!”
