LIHUE — The service is free, and available today at the Kukui Grove Center.

The AARP Tax-Aide free in-person tax preparation service, which opened on Friday, continues its service from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at a space located across from T-Mobile and Oki’s Bento.

“You need to come, now,” a Tax-Aide client said on Friday while having her paperwork checked. “There is no line right now, and they have a lot of tax return preparers.”

That’s just one free event being offered at the mall today.

People are invited to view the many quilts available at the Kauai Quilt Show and Boutique, which is open until Wednesday. The exhibit — which includes donation quilts, for which the proceeds of the quilt are earmarked for a Kauai nonprofit of the purchaser’s choice — is open daily from 10 a.m.

Additionally, Laulima No Na ‘Ohana, with support from Spectrum and the county’s Agency on Elderly Affairs, will host an Exploring Artificial Intelligence with ChatGPT from noon to 3 p.m. at the space adjacent to Deja Vu Surf Hawaii, where Kukui Grove hosted the Mele Makeke over the holidays.

During the free workshop oriented toward kupuna, participants will learn more about AI with ChatGPT. Attendees are invited to bring their smartphones, and laptop computers will be available to use. Attendees will get help with downloading the ChatCPT app on their smart phones, searching for recipes, using voice mode instead of typing, preparing a grocery list, travel planning, safety and scam awareness, and hands-on practice.

Meanwhile, the AARP Tax-Aide service is available to people of all ages, and clients do not have to be a member of AARP to take advantage of the free preparation of 2025 federal and state tax returns.

Individuals and families wishing to have their returns prepared should bring with them a government-issued identification (such as a driver’s license), all of their 2025 tax documents, a copy of their 2024 tax return, and optionally, a copy of a bank check if they want their refunds direct deposited.

People are also able to ask for a copy of the registration form that lists all needed tax documents in order to facilitate the registration at another Tax-Aide site.

Tax-Aide will be at the Hanapepe Public Library on Monday from 9:30 to 2 p.m.; the Lihue Neighborhood Center on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m.; the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center on Wednesday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.; the Kekaha Neighborhood Center on Thursday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.; and at the Kalukalu, or the Kauai Federal Credit Union Kapaa Branch, on Friday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
