Hey y’all — Chip Jones here, The Preppy Gardener — and welcome to my first video of 2026!
After a long, cold winter here in Oklahoma, I’m finally back outside… and I couldn’t be happier because today I get to reveal something I’ve been dreaming about for a long time — the new potting shed at Okarga Farms.
When we first moved onto the property, this building was barely standing. It leaned, the siding was coming off, the door was falling apart, and for a while it was used as everything from a tool shed to a chicken house. We had barns to build and a home to remodel first, so I had plenty of time to plan exactly what I wanted this space to become.
In this episode, I’ll walk you through the design decisions and details, including:
• Rebuilding and leveling the original structure
• Salvaged antique doors and architectural fretwork
• The custom mint-green paint color inspired by majolica
• A garden trowel finial on the roof
• Custom window placement for the potting workspace
• Future plans for a pollinator garden and flagstone entry
• Storage loft and workspace layout ideas
• Drainage, landscaping, and future greenhouse possibilities
This space isn’t finished yet — and that’s intentional. I want it to grow and evolve along with the garden. The potting shed will be where I film projects, start plants, design arrangements, and share many of the upcoming videos with you this year.
I’d love for you to be part of the process — so leave me a comment and tell me what you would add to a dream potting shed!
Thank you for being here and for waiting through the winter with me. We have a lot of garden projects coming this season.
Be sure to like, subscribe, and follow along — there’s so much more ahead in 2026.
See you back in the garden soon 🌿

So beautiful 😍
Chip, your excitement is infectious! Lovely use of an old tool shed. The use of the trowel as a finial is brilliant! Maybe add an old whimsical weathervane on top. There are some really cool ones out there.
Good luck and happy spring (almost 🤗)!
Love it
Wow…. the outside is incredible! Love the doors and millwork overhang. So unique! The trowel is perfect!!!! But, when you walked in and were standing in the doorway, I was amazed at how big it is inside. Its deceiving from the outside. The antique chest is swoon worthy!!!! And the hint of the old green paint on the potting table is wonderful. Can't wait to see this journey. And your styling, I am sure, will be pure magic!!!! What a dreamy gardeners sanctuary!!!!
I have an idea about your drainage issues. Since you are already planning to start a garden. Have a tractor re-level the ground. Think of it as removing the turf. And it's a lot cheaper and faster.
Looks great! Maybe consider adding molding to be bottom of the single door to help with water runoff and hide the addition you added at the bottom. This is a common practice on door in France.
So glad you are back! A glass greenhouse would be beautiful!
Your potting shed is so beautiful! Your creative use of old architectural items is amazing! I can’t wait to see it finished.
Hi Chip and Bitsie 👋 It is great to see you back! You have been missed. 😊 I love all the details and colors. The chest is beautiful with all the detail and perfectly sized. I am very surprised at how big it is inside! Great plans, I am excited to follow along. Thank you for sharing Chip. Jen Z9b Texas Gulf Coast
Love the idea of a window box or boxes and I really think a lovely herb garden would be the perfect touch!!! I’m excited to know you will have a pollinator flower garden!!!
WOW! This shed is exquisite! I love all the details and the color is perfection. I love the idea of a copper clad window box on the side, and a greenhouse off the back would be magical.
What a great space! The doors are drool-worthy 😊
It’s simply beautiful! Love it!
I love the light mint green and the brown exterior! The cabinet is stunning it’s going to look even better surrounded by white walls. What fun you are having! Looking forward to seeing all the changes and creativity with your fabulous eye for detail that you have.
Add a green house to the end of the potting shed! I just love all your videos! Keep them coming!!
Looking forward to seeing how you integrate the garden areas between your home and garden shed! (is that building behind the shed also part of your farm? Couldn't tell if it was a small barn or home)
Would you consider inviting Linda Vater to your home to do a garden tour this spring or summer? I think many viewers would find your garden design discussion very informative.
One idea for your shed: what about finishing your stairs to match your potting bench? Since the wood tones already match, you'd just have to add a little bit of color to match the patina of the bench.
um I have an idea! I am moving in!
The potting shed is looking fantastic! Thanks for the reveal!
How about collecting the water for the garden
Missed you so much! Your "Hanzel and Gretel house" is spectacular. And the hutch is just perfect. Congratulations on a perfectly executed design! Can't wait for the next phase. ❤
