Tristan Allen has shared a new video for Act III: Rite, the latest visual companion to Osni the Flare, their sophomore album released March 27th via RVNG Intl.

The album — the second chapter in a mythic trilogy — traces the journey of a mortal named Osni who, after discovering fire within the belly of a dragon, is transformed through death into a deity. Where the previously released video for Act I: Garden offered an intimate entry point into Allen’s world, Act III: Rite marks a pivotal turn in that arc: the moment myth tips toward the irreversible.

Born in Saratoga Springs and shaped by early childhood years in Japan, Allen’s practice is genuinely singular, threading together acoustic composition, electronic arrangement, and a rigorous puppetry discipline developed under the mentorship of Mike Leach at the Puppetworks theatre in Brooklyn. Osni the Flare was recorded almost entirely in their apartment overlooking Cypress Hills cemetery, built from toy piano, ocarinas, Balinese sulings, slowly wound music boxes, and wordless vocal melodies — the latter inspired by their partner’s humming of Pan’s Labyrinth. Fire sounds, remarkably, were coaxed from fingernail clicks on piano keys.

The result is an album that achieves what Allen has described as music that doesn’t sound like people playing instruments — but like the work of the fantastical world itself. With Act III: Rite now visualised, the deeper architecture of that world comes into sharper focus.
