Claire’s second choice also appears in early summer and is a bearded iris so flamboyant it looks like it’s ready to go to a ball. It gets its name from its distinct juicy shades of cranberry red.
Claire, however, says, its luxurious shades of red are like the colour of a garnet stone, with deep reddish-brown silky beards. “Iris fanciers list this as a border bearded iris,” explains Claire, for those who know their irises particularly well, “because it blooms at the same time as the tall, bearded irises and is good at adding structure, as well as colour, to a border.” Glamour from head to toe.
