It is understood that the 23-year-old man was shot following a confrontation with his employer at the residence.
Two suspects aged between 28 and 33 have been taken into custody for questioning.
The gardener, was taken to hospital where he is believed to be in a critical condition.
Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said investigators were searching for the firearm used in the shooting.
“The victim is an employee at this residence and the K9 unit, detectives and Forensic Crime Scene Management are processing the scene,” she said.
“The motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage and police investigations are underway.”
