Hi! First time indoor seed starter here. I’m thrilled to see my black krim and purple Cherokee seeds saved from last summer have mostly sprouted (pic 1, about a rate of 7 out of 9). Now that they’ve started, do I change my light or heat pad levels? Do I keep covered or give them more air? No true leaves yet.

I am concerned about the mold/fungus that also likes these conditions (pic 2). I opened the lid slightly to let more air in, but anything else I should do?

I should add that it may be a bit early but I have more seeds I’ll start later, and I wanted to hedge my bets with how spring frosts roll this year (earlier vs later).

Take them off the heat mat and leave them uncovered. Seeding don’t need heat or a humidity dome. Get the under a growing light asap!

Congrats!! 🎉 Once they sprout, remove the humidity dome and turn off the heat mat, room temp is fine now. Keep lights close (2–3 inches above seedlings) to prevent legginess.

For mold, increase airflow (small fan helps) and avoid overwatering, let the surface dry slightly between waterings. You’re on the right track!

Start bottom watering if you can now too.
