I’m a gardening novice but don’t mind rolling my sleeves up, was planning on getting rid of everything except the shed (even existing hardcore) and need to replace fence posts. Wife is a bit more bohemian whereas me and the kids have hayfever and I’m partial to the artificial grass and faux look. We agree on a new patio at the very least.
Would appreciate any input / suggestions. West facing.

not much gardening going on in this photo, is there a single plant in this space!?
don’t get fake grass, it’s awful for so many reasons.
Artificial grass is an ecological nightmare, if you’re going that route please try and have some trees and plants in pots around.
Fake grass just no, that shit needs banned. Dont be that person!
Wow, this is a great project. Please try to work with some hypoallergenic lawn alternatives that are natural like JS11 Clover Lawn. It’s low maintenance, beautiful, good for wildlife and shouldn’t cause your hayfever many problems.
Please don’t get artificial grass it’s truly horrendous stuff and will get hot enough in to summer to be uncomfortable to walk and sit on, it’s horrible for pets feet, ditto small children! Would bark chipping be a possibility? Too many plastics and the planets getting hotter. Besides which , with climate change they won’t look nice after just a couple of hot summers. I’m allergic to both grass AND trees but have learned not all trees are equal in setting off the hay fever! It’s worth looking into which plants don’t set off reactions as much. Have you considered a raised vegetable bed? There’s lots to get kids involved with -and keep them engaged! – with growing your own veggies. For ground cover I’d be looking at bark, or pebbles, certainly nothing as damaging as fake plastic grass.
