Villagers in Redbourn set to be affected by plans for thousands of homes on their doorstep will not have the chanced to quiz developers in person.

Hemel Garden Communities is a strategic cross-boundary project, approximately half within St Albans City and District and half within Dacorum Borough, which will deliver approximately 11,000 homes and 10,000 jobs up to 2050.

Of this project, the East Hemel development will see 4,000 homes on 975 acres east of Hemel , south of the B487 Hemel Hempstead Road (Redbourn Road) and north of the A4147 St Albans Road.

As part of the consultation into new Draft Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) that will help shape the future housing, neighbourhoods and development within the Hemel Garden Communities Programme Area, a public meeting was scheduled to take place at Redbourn Parish Centre on Thursday February 26.

But organisers HCC, SADC and Dacorum Borough Council have moved the event online – and merged it with a similar event planned for Leverstock Green Village Hall next Tuesday,

Organisers said: “The change has been made in light of higher than predicted attendance numbers and the capped capacity of the venues. Moving the arrangements online will allow more people to attend.”

The joint online event will be held on Monday March 2 from 7-8pm. Anyone wishing to join this event will need to register beforehand, using this link. Registration closes at midday on March 2.

The consultations are not  about the principle of allocating sites or any other current planning applications; these are being dealt with separately through the Local Plan process and /or planning application consultations.

Campaigners have highlighted some of the impact of the developments, including increased traffic congestion and housing just a few hundred yards from the Grade I-listed St Mary’s Church, which dates back to the 12th century.
