Gran’s garden hit with flooding as rainwater streams down her drive
A Scots gran is “frightened” to leave her home after her garden was hit with flooding caused by blocked gullies. Agnes Hanlon, 76, has had to place sandbags at her gate in Muirhead Road, Baillieston, in efforts to stop the torrent when it rains.
Local councillor Kevin Lalley is calling for the council to take “emergency action” to tackle the drains on Muirhead Road as the water rushes down the street, which is on a hill, into the elderly woman’s garden.
Agnes said she fears the water may eventually seep into her home as it forms very large puddles at the base of her house walls. In response, the council said it expects drainage works to start tomorrow.

Describing the problem, Agnes said: “I am scared it will go into the house. It is like a river flowing down. My monoblock (paving) is ruined. This has been going on for about three years. I need something to be done. I can’t go on like this any more.”
Labour Councillor Lalley said: “We have a resident who is frightened to leave the house in case she slips. Her feet get soaking wet. I want these drains attended to so the resident can enjoy her garden. The water is cascading down the pathway to her front door.
“I have been told the work will get done. But it should be done as an emergency. I think it is a disgrace.”

The grounds of the home have been left mucky due to the flooding and water also flows to the back garden.
A council spokesperson said: “A high‑pressure jetting unit attended Muirhead Road recently but was unable to clear an underground blockage.
