Let me preface this by saying I still use glyphosate where needed and it is not the devil, but, someone was asking for alternatives yesterday and people were saying its "perfectly safe". I got downvoted to hell for pointing out that its not.
What made me even look into the topic was my brother WINNING a lawsuit because of roundup exposure causing his NHL, non-hodgkins lymphoma/leukemia. People then said "lawsuits aren't won by science", which I get the sentiment, but to think you can win eleven BILLION dollars with zero evidence is kinda…what? Yes, its not a case study but case studies were used to win the lawsuits…….
Basically there are two types of studies on the topic and then meta analysis. Studies done by agriculture companies, shockingly, say there is no issue!
Studies done by cancer researchers say there is an issue. You choose who you believe.
FYI, 30% vinegar will nuke any weed I've ever come across and the only downside is a vinegar smell you just rinse off. Well, that and finding a way to store/spray it kinda sucks because it is so nuclear. Roundup is good for things you need to nuke down to their roots like certain larger and invasive plants/bulbs etc.
AGAIN IM NOT SAYING DONT USE IT BUT SAYING ITS "PERFECTLY SAFE BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT A WEED" IS WILDLY MISINFORMED. I STILL USE IT WHEN NEEDED BUT ONLY WHEN I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO.

Studies that you may have confused as being safe say its not GENO toxic, but instead its mechnism of action may be CYTO TOXIC. So the articles say it is "safe" for THAT action, not safe as in doesnt cause cancer.

The WHO (world health organization) authoritatizely recognizes it as a carcinogen in group 2a, the 2nd highest group.

Honestly there are so many studies I can link ill just leave it there.

I work in a farm and spray for a living. Glyphosate is one of rhe most benign things used in ag. People’s fixation on it is ridiculous.
Damn, I just bought a bunch yesterday
All chemicals have dangers to them and need to be used properly. Properly used, you reduce the risk down to acceptable levels. This goes for glyphosate as well.
Obviously you should not take a bath in it or drink it but spraying it on grass/weeds in moderation is perfectly fine.
I did not read all the studies but for the samples versus control what’s the exposure amount? Is it people working in ag fields spraying it daily? Or homeowners who use it a few times a year?
I pull it out like twice a year. Is that going to be any more harmful than going out to eat weekly or having a terrible diet like most Americans? I wouldn’t think so but I haven’t looked into any studies like that
I’m sure breathing glyphosate isn’t great for you, but outside of that, it’s not hurting you long term or otherwise. There are a million studies for Round Up, generic glyphosate or any other form of commercial grade herbicide. Farmers use this stuff. Large scale companies use this stuff. Lawncare/landscapers use this stuff. You know how all these people using it don’t end up in a health/government research study? PPE. Wear your PPE and use the herbicide as recommended on the tub and you’ll be fine.
All that to say though, just my opinion. I am going to continue to use it to make fence lines, walkways and edges of flower beds more maintainable in my schedule for my company. Yeehaw, weeds go brr.
It’s important to note that winning a lawsuit isn’t the same as demonstrating a causal link between exposure and outcome.
You didnt mention that 30% vinegar is not systemic and does not kill the root of the weed. You also didnt mention any risks of using/storing 30% vinegar which is not the same as 5% household vinegar.
Exactly! Thanks for posting. At a court near me there has been a case pending for a couple of years dealing with the effects of glyphosate. [Nahid Ashtari vs Monsanto Company / COMPLEX (unicourt.com)](https://unicourt.com/case/ca-fre2-nahid-ashtari-vs-monsanto-companycomplex-204835)
