Anniston, AL – The Anniston Museums and Gardens will host two gardening-focused events on Thursday, February 19, offering opportunities for area residents to prepare for the upcoming planting season while supporting the Longleaf Botanical Gardens.

Beginning at 12 p.m., the “Third Thursday: Sharpening Your Garden Tools” program will provide participants with hands-on instruction in maintaining and sharpening common gardening tools. Mandy Pearson from Camp Lee will lead the session, demonstrating simple and effective sharpening techniques for pruners, loppers, shovels, and other manual tools. Organizers say the workshop is designed to help gardeners keep their tools in optimal condition while building practical skills ahead of the spring growing season.

The sharpening workshop is open to the public at a cost of $5 per person and is free for Anniston Museums and Gardens members.

In addition to the workshop, a Plant Sale will take place throughout the day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Longleaf Botanical Gardens greenhouses, also located on Museum Drive. The sale will feature a variety of trees, shrubs, native plants, tropical plants, and other selections for home gardens. Proceeds from the plant sale will support the continued growth and development of the Longleaf Botanical Gardens.

Visitors can access the plant sale by driving up Museum Drive past the Anniston Museum of Natural History and the Berman Museum, then turning left at the Monarch Butterfly to reach the greenhouse area.

Both events will be held at the Anniston Museums and Gardens campus, located on Museum Drive in Anniston.
