Can I cut this plant down so it starts growing leaves at the bottom?
No idea what kind of plant this is but recently saw someone cut down something similar close to the bottom and it started growing again from the stem. Can I do that with this plant?
You can cellophane a ball of dirt near the top, wait a couple months for roots, then you have two plants 👍👍

Yes! But put the stick in ziplock bag, the greenhouse effect will help. And put the top n water, so it can grow new roots and you can have another plant. I’d also recommend grow lights just to boost the process.

Yes. Here’s mine. I chopped it in late November . Left town for a month and came back and it had little buds on the trunk. Now it looks like this.
I’m going to chop the taller ones too eventually and repot this one in the larger pot it’s old pot is sitting in.

I’m sorry but that plant looks hilarious. Like a person with a loooong neck.

It’s a Fiddle Leaf Fig. You can cut it quite low, just make sure you leave one node from a previous leaf that’s fallen off. I’ve done this at least twice with my Fiddle Leaf when it got too tall for my space.

If you notch into the bark just above the nodes where leaves used to be (about an inch above it) it’ll promote growth of new buds right at the top of that node.
Chop him in half! Find a node (the slightly chunkier parts of the stem where the leaves have came away from) and cut it under one. I did a YouTube for this just to get some ideas. Completely ignore the original stick in the pot it will make tiny leaves in like a month (not sure about watering at this point as mine is in a self watering pot for ignoring purposes).
The part you’ve cut off, see if any of the leaves want to fall off, if not you can cut them in half and leave three leaves at the very top untouched. You can water prop or soil prop. You will want to mist the remaining leaves regardless and possibly the stem as with no roots it can’t get any water. I’m doing a soil prop I just poked the end in rooting powder and popped it back in with original plant tied up with knitting needles.
Here’s an article I found really helpful it goes into the different methods for the part you’ve cut off.
You can cut it asmany times as you want, but it wont make it grow right. You just need to give it more light. Otherwise, you will just end up with multiple elongated plants.

Like people have said make sure to leave a node but also don’t get super super short you wanna give the plant a chance to make another leaf for it has a chance to make food and cutting the whole stem off almost completely will limit the stored nutrients it has
I bet you could get a good 4-5 plants out of that stem

Am I the only person who kinda likes the look of a tall crowned fiddle leaf? Mine was 3 ft tall and lost most of its leaves when it was left on a back room and short of water for a while a few years ago. But now it’s over 6 feet with a crown of 3-4 feet of foliage that I think gives some cool height to my living room.

You could also try keiki paste to help your fiddle fill out down low.
This is 3 months after I chopped her bare, there were zero leaves left. Unfortunately what I chopped didn’t root but I’ll take it.

Oh my gosh. Google the Long Long man Japanese commercials. There is a whole series of mini commercials and that’s all I can think about seeing your plant.

That’s what mine looked like before it finally died on me for the last time 😩 it lasted 5+ years and two toddlers. it succumbed to some random spider mites that thankfully didn’t get any of our other plants.

Yes, and the top will root easily as well.

But for the branch in the pot it will kick off in about a month! I chopped on the 13th January and then this is his tiny leaves today.
I’m not entirely sure if my chopped off bit is going to work but I still have half 💃🏼

Google “air layering”. You can’t get a ton of amazing plants out of that!
I accidentally melted my fig and here it is coming back from just the rootball and little stump. I didn’t have the heart to trash a healthy rootball…
