Maybe it's considered too common, boring or otherwise less remarkable… But they've still captured your heart, no matter how many exotic hybrids come out each season. Let's hear it for your favorite underappreciated succulent!
Pictured is my Pachyphytum Aquamarine. One of my oldest succulents (4 years), my first Pachyphytum and a true ride or die. She's been through the great cayanne powder scorch of 2022, the fallen greenhouse post ordeal of 2023, the over waterings and under waterings and the insects and the squirrel raids. The my-new-frost-protection-has-limits lesson this winter gave her a nice frosty blush. When lesser succulents perish, she grows on.
Throughout the year she will range from a bright aqua blue to a seaglass green, sometimes her facets will be more or less pronounced, and right now she has a lovely purplish and peachy blush around the edges that only show up a few times a year. She looked so unassuming way back in 2022 (last picture) when I first brought her home, but she is one of my most resilient and consistent growers, and she is always a stunning standout in my garden. 🩵🤩

Ooh okay so you don’t really ever see lipstick plants here, but they’re semi succulent. My lipstick plant was actually my first/oldest plant and somehow it’s still kicking. I just noticed the other day that it started putting out flowers for the first time! So yeah, this guy has been underappreciated but it’s put up with several years of very bad plant care on my part and is still trying its best without complaining, and now I will give it some long-deserved praise.
