If you learn how to build you can develop the exact trees that float your boat. I'm lucky I started early (when I was 22) for the longer projects. This is to give you an idea of the timescales involved with the older ones DEFINITELY extended because of my lack of knowledge / experience and understanding. There are soft rules (aesthetics) and hard rules (manipulation of how trees grow). Learning the hard rules is very important early on as you start the hobby and I cannot stress enough about looking at the tree and knowing a) what is needed to move the tree forward b) what hard rules must you follow to achieve your goal.

I hope this helps the builders out there.
