honestly I thought this was getting rot, pulled it out to check, ans the one thing was just one potato that i'd stuck a thing through. wtf do I do with the ones that aren't attached to the potato
So I think that’s a tuber which is an organ that stores water for the SoH.
I would just propagate whatever you got of the vines (butterfly method or pinning to moist substrate) and replant after they grow roots.

That red clip isn’t the problem. I would replant the tubers in a shallow dish with chunky soil, put all your vines on top, just circle around and use those stakes or even Bobby pins to hold them down slightly in the soil, water & wait. She will grow again. I’ve done it several times with mine. I have 5 pots of SOHs. I’ve tried the butterfly method and water prop. with my hearts, but they haven’t worked for me.
