This front yard transformation was a long journey. When we bought this house in late 2022, the front yard was covered in gravel from its years as a rental property. It felt hot, harsh and lifeless, so I started experimenting with ways to make it feel more welcoming.

First I tried mulch, then I added a white fence and native garden design, but nothing quite gave me the clean, finished look I wanted. That’s when I decided to install artificial grass myself — and it completely changed the space.

In this video I show the full transformation story, including preparing the ground, laying road base, adding cracker dust, compacting the base, laying the artificial turf and securing it in place.

This is a real DIY front yard transformation using photos, real working footage and honest lessons learned along the way.

The gum tree is still there, and in my next video I tackle the leaf problem using an artificial grass sweeper — which turned out to be a game changer.

If you are thinking about artificial grass, low maintenance lawns, or front yard landscaping ideas, I hope this video helps and inspires you.
