Just putting some final touches on building a new seed starting "closet" in a shop room in my unheated garage.

Because it's unheated space I enclosed an area with ridgid insulation.

Will be using heat mats when germinating seeds and enclosing the space (" front doors" are removable.

Would love feedback on the setup (still in progress and need to get an additional set of shelves/lights setup)?

Also would love some advice on using 1 or 2 lights per shelf for germination and seedlings?

Will you be adding an oscillating fan to prevent mold and strengthen stems?

    This is quite the setup!

I basically just germinate mixed seeds separated by variety from the last 10 years in whatever left over trash containers I can find using toilet water.

    Add a little fan.

I think 1 vs 2 lights depends on how large/old you’re hoping your plants will get before transplant. As they grow it’s more challenging to make sure each one gets enough light

This looks like a good setup! I think you would probably be better off with 2 lights per shelf. I just use some generic shop lights, but I actually have 3 deep on one of my shelves. Definitely add a small fan in there to circulate some air and help strengthen the seedlings after germination

Looks similar to my garage setup. Like everyone else is saying, a small fan would be great. And more lights are always better than fewer lights, if you’re planning on up-potting the seedlings and keeping them on the shelf for a while. You run out of room quickly when up-potting, so more lights is a problem I always run into if I’m keeping them in the garage for over a month. Also, emergency blankets are super cheap, and make a great reflective ‘grow tent’ if you tape them to the back of the shelves. I like your setup, and I wish you luck on your starts. Happy growing!
