A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon following a crash on Alternate A1A in Palm Beach Gardens, according to authorities.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said the collision occurred at approximately 3:52 p.m. on Feb. 15, 2026, near 12422 Alternate A1A.
Investigators reported that the rider, identified as Jake D. Melvin of Palm Beach Gardens, was traveling northbound in the inside lane at a high rate of speed on a 2021 Yamaha motorcycle. A 2021 Lexus SUV was traveling ahead in the center lane.
Authorities said the motorcyclist lost control, causing the motorcycle to overturn and eject the rider. Both the motorcycle and rider slid northbound, with the motorcycle subsequently overtaking the Lexus and striking it in the left rear.
Melvin sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officials confirmed that next-of-kin notification has been completed.
The driver of the Lexus, identified as Robin Remick, 53, of Palm Beach Gardens, was not injured. Investigators noted that alcohol and drugs were not considered factors for either party.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division.
