  1. here in Australia we start to plant our cold season crops now like cauliflower/cabbage/broccoli etc, at the moment our gardens still have zucchini/tomatoes/pumpkins growing.

  2. My goodness. We still have 10 inches of snow on the ground, here in Zone 7a. There's no way I can plant carrots at this time. Hopefully it'll melt next week, once the weather warms up some.

  3. I have a dining room table full of seed starting trays with a few of them sprouted already! So Excited!

  4. 7a, Boise. Had a super mild winter but the ground is still frozen about 1/2-1" down. Too early to prep the soil but have my brassicas in milk jugs and the eggplant, peppers, tomatoes, etc will be milk jugged on the 15th.

  5. I always prune my fruit trees in January/ February. It’s tricky because here in the northwest it rains all the time, but we’re not supposed to prune if rain is in the forecast for 2 weeks after the prune. I just wait till the first weekend in January that DOESN’T have rain predicted for the following week. Sometime I have to wait a full month or more to find that window.

  6. I think it's going to be more like March for my zone 6 right now. Still got over a foot of snow on the ground. 😉 Thanks for the list.

  7. Where do you get the woven weed fabric? We have tried so many different types. The weeds and grasses grow through even the " heavy" fabric!

  8. My zone has also switched in the last couple years to 7a for S. Indiana. We just had the 15 inches snow melt and now we will be in the 60's next week. These are great for me to get moving on just a couple weeks behind you. Thanks for the reminders! I haven't ordered my onion starts. 😐Completely slipped my mind. Lol

  9. Our last frost date isn't until mid May so that gives me a bit of time to get ready. Your list is a great guideline. Thank you for sharing. Have a blessed week.

  10. “Grow a little fruit tree” is a great book on how to maintain shorter, smaller fruit trees. This is both for smaller spaces, as well as for making harvesting easier. The author describes in detail how and why to do this and when, what & why to prune in late winter, as you just mentioned.
But the basic principle for tree pruning is: for promoting lots of growth and size, prune in late winter.
For suppressing growth to keep trees small, prune at or as soon after the summer solstice as possible.

  11. Oh Zone 7b now an 8 — same here in central NC. But after this bitter winter? 🤷🏻‍♀ New to your channel. Seeing your Formica counter, I KNEW I could trust you! We live in the real world. Your list is a good one, thank you. I needed that bit of a kick right now. I’ve got my seed potatoes and onions on order and should pick them up this week. I’ve also added 3 neighbors into my order — so happy we now have a group of us to support garden veg! I grew strawberries in my Greenstalk and that proved very successful. Also pretty fun to graze thru the fruits as I walk in/out of my back door. Berries on the top row, and lettuce, spinach, chard on the lower levels where the chickens can nibble (we share 🐓). I didn’t like the flavor of the strawberries from Home Depot, but they grew well. Raspberries are a fabulous crop! I bought some from Johnnys Seed and was thrilled that they produced up in the first year. Delicious! Planting blueberries into the wood mulch is perfect.✔ They will thrive. Your children are adorable and enthusiastic assistants! Well done, family!

  12. I love your videos!! I'm in zone 7b now 8A in Virginia.
Would you tell me where you purchased your landscape fabric? I'm going to out fabric in my garden soon. I want to make sure I purchase a good fabric but on a budget. I'm getting ready to start my winter sowing. I love winter sowing.
Thank you for all your vidoes!! They are so educational.
