CROSSLAKE — The Crosslake Area Garden Club will host a presentation at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at the Crosslake Community Center on “Companion Planting for a Successful Harvest” by Candice Zimmermann, owner of Treeline Acres Farm and Nursery, south of Brainerd.

There is no charge to attend the presentation.

Growing in a northern climate can be challenging, but with companion planting, gardeners can improve soil health, reduce pests and diseases, attract beneficial insects and increase overall yields without relying on chemicals.

The presentation will explore common companion plant pairings and will explain the science and tradition behind why they work.

Thoughtful plant placement can create a healthier, more balanced garden that benefits the gardener and the natural environment.

Zimmermann has been providing fresh vegetables and farm products to the Brainerd lakes community since 2022. Along with her two kids and husband, the Zimmermann family turned a tired farm into a thriving homestead and farm business.

The Crosslake Area Garden Club consists of nearly 50 members who meet at 1 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month at the Crosslake Community Center, 14126 Daggett Pine Road.

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “Pineandlakes Echo Journal.” Often, the “Pineandlakes Echo Journal” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
