Sloss Furnaces are a national historic landmark in Birmingham, Alabama, which was a hotbed for iron manufacturing owing to its proximity to iron ore, coal, and limestone. The furnaces operated from the late 1800s until 1971.

Found the contrast between our native prairie plants and the rusting over heavy equipment deeply compelling.
