Victoria’s Crystal Garden building was packed for the annual Seedy Saturday event, the biggest celebration of gardening and farming on Vancouver Island.

On Saturday, Feb. 14, the downtown space featured dozens of vendors, free workshops and a speaker series for anyone from beginner gardeners to those with a green thumb.

The annual event, which takes place across the globe, is an opportunity to learning about gardening, community food resilience, and climate-adaptive food growing from experts; and it’s a chance to buy locally grown, climate-adapted seeds and plants.

Speakers throughout the day included gardeners from the Victoria Native Friendship Centre, founder of Cicada Seeds Michalina Hunter, and Lisa Willott, Vancouver Island seed coordinator with FarmFolk CityFolk.

Additionally, gardeners were invited to bring unused seeds to swap with others at the seed exchange.
