MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has dismissed calls for him to take garden leave over allegations linked to his share ownership, saying he will continue carrying out his duties as no criminal charges have been filed against him.

Azam said there is no requirement for him to step aside, stressing that even individuals facing court cases or investigations have continued working.

“I don’t need to take leave. Many who are charged in court are still working. Even a former finance minister continued serving while under investigation — so what’s the problem? Have I committed any crime?” he said.

Azam said the Special Investigation Committee set up to probe the allegations against him is expected to conduct its work transparently and professionally, and he pledged full cooperation, including submitting all required documents and information.

“I leave it to the committee to carry out its responsibility. I am ready to provide any documents or information needed,” he said, adding that personal banking documents would only be shown to the committee and relevant authorities.

He said he has already met police investigators and will submit the same documents to both the police and the special committee if required.

Azam also confirmed issuing a letter of demand to Bloomberg over its report alleging he owned shares in a financial services company based on corporate filings, and said he will proceed with legal action if there is no response within 14 days.

Calls for him to be temporarily relieved of duty emerged after the report surfaced, but the Prime Minister said there is no immediate need to suspend Azam pending the outcome of the special committee’s investigation
