This beauty only produced a single stem from the tuber last year (first year from a bought tuber) so I let it do its thing all summer.
September I figured I'd see if some of the side shoots would root. 8 weeks later I'd got 4 really healthy cuttings throwing out new green shoots. They started to die back at the start of Dec but I was hopefull that I'd got roots that had started to form a tuber.
Just lifted them now to find no roots and no tubers despite the good growth.
So any hope of cuttings from top growth or advice on increasing the number of eyes available for base cuttings?

This is an automatic reminder regarding r/dahlias Rule 3:
When reasonable*, posters should make a good-faith effort to identify which variety/varieties are shown in their photo(s). If you don’t know for certain, please say so. Someone will usually know!
*Common-sense exceptions to this rule will be honored, such as if the photo does not contain a blossom, or if your photo contains large volumes (such as in wide field shots).
If you’ve already done this, thank you! No further action required.
If not, please add a reply to this comment and confirm if you know the name of your dahlia variety/varieties shown in the photo(s). Alternately, if you’re uncertain of the variety name(s), it’s ok to say that, too.

Did you use a rooting hormone product? If you post a photo of the growth you’ve got I can tell you where I would cut.
