Over the last few weeks our fiddle leaf has taken a dramatic turn and lost almost all leafs, with more to come. I'm resigned to the fact that it's the end for this plant. We've had it almost 10 years and it's probably 5 meters fully extended.
By the way, I did repot this and inspected the root ball – it looked great, with no rotting. I think possibly its height now means it gets less light as its above the line of the window, but it's still unclear why it's so temperamental. Could be the weather as we've had quite a very hot days (subtropical climate)
I've propogated this twice before. There is one healthy branch and I am considering cutting that and planting that again.
My question is do you think if I top cut this to about 2 meters, will it grow again? All the leafs in the lower portion are gone. I've seen severe cuts work before

It’s not getting enough light plain and simple. Get a grow light.
The leaves do the photosynthesizing, not the trunk or the soil. Those leaves are getting zero light.
