Morning Y’all, and welcome to another DownHeah Edition of Saturday Morning Garden Blogging. Credit to CaptainDunsel for the opening blurb.
It’s Pepper Season for me once again. All my pepper seeds were started on 2/1/26; 13 varieties this year. About half are considered “superhots”…

I start all my peppers from seed; most from my own saved seed, but I buy new varieties on occasion. This year, it’s chiletepin. I’m growing them for a good friend who professes to having a “black thumb”.

Germination was a bit spotty in places, but I managed “sproutage” for all 13 varieties by Day 11.
2 or 3 weeks from now, all viable seedlings will be potted up to 5” containers, roughly 40 or so; we’ll see…
The most frequently asked question I get about growing peppers is: “What do you do with all those superhot peppers?” The answer is “hot sauce”. I make 6 or 7 batches a year. The latest was a Carolina Reaper sauce; it packed quite a punch!!

A batch of Ghost Pepper sauce is in the works. 3 more batches are coming up. Those will be the last of my 2025 peppers…

Looks like we’ve got another Weird Winter Warmup coming next week…

Happy Valentine’s Day!! What’s going on in your garden?
**Edited to add that the chiletepin seeds were ordered from Thresh Seed Co.
Here They seem to be located in Iowa…
