Housing fair helps Garden City residents navigate path to homeownership

GARDEN CITY, Ga. (WTOC) -Representative Carl Gilliard and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs’ Georgia Dream Program hosted a “Come Get Your Keys” housing fair Saturday morning.

The event in Garden City featured speakers who provided information to help residents with the tools needed for homeownership.

Since 2016, Representative Gilliard has worked with the Georgia Dream program and other lenders, helping more than 300 people own homes.

Rep. Gilliard emphasized eligibility for FHA funding and conventional loans, expanding avenues to homeownership for residents.

“People don’t believe they can purchase. But if you can’t do a conditional loan at a 640-plus credit score, then maybe you can do an FHA,” said Rep. Carl Gilliard, (D) Georgia. “So to bring them the information, to bring the state of Georgia here to them is a better picture. But what I’m excited about, about this program, they’re just everyday individuals, single mothers, new couples.”

Attendees were able to learn from representatives from the Georgia Dream Program, as well as professional realtors.
