Green-fingered enthusiasts are getting ready to hold their first meet up for the growing season on Saturday, February 28, 10am-noon.

They are set to plant several varieties of fruit trees in the newly dug borders at the garden.

East Lothian Council has also confirmed it supports the plans for the community garden and has offered assistance for making the garden more accessible.

This includes lowering the fence along the path so that passers-by can see into the garden and installing an accessible path and seating area.

The community garden, being created on a former playground in the heart of a residential area, is open to members of the public, including families and elderly people, who live locally.

The horticultural haven is located in the Mucklets, between Mucklets Avenue and Mayfield Crescent, near Musselburgh Railway Station.

The community garden is part of a network of community gardens supported by Sustaining Musselburgh, a constituted group which aims to help create a net-zero carbon, biodiverse and socially just community throughout all parts of the Musselburgh area.

The network includes community gardens at Fisherrow, Rennie Bridge and the dementia-friendly garden at Musselburgh Library.
