Hello friends, are these potatoes okay to put in the ground for spring planting or are they too far gone? I know the more plump ones need a little more time to develop bigger eye roots before going into the dirt and I might miss the planting window with them here in south Texas but are the more shriveled ones still viable to go in ground? New to potatoes and saved these over holidays for planting now! Thank you! 🙂

Those look like mine! But I’ve been procrastinating. As long as they aren’t rotten-rotten…just shriveled…they should be fine. If they stink or are squishy, moist soft…I wouldn’t plant those.

When you plant them, mark which ones are super shriveled. If they don’t sprout up like the others, pull them out. Seed potatoes do “feed” off the seed they are sprouting from. Kind of like an egg for a little while. Make sure you put a little extra bone meal and blood meal in the bed/container with them and that will give them an extra uumph.

I also limit the eyes per seed to 2-3.
