We live in central Florida, where we had below freezing temperatures a couple of weeks ago. Two-three days of it. Naturally now most of the grass and plants in the area are brown. My question however is what is up with this weird lattice like pattern in my backyard where the grass is (I think?) regrowing. It's zoysia and our front yard does not have the same pattern so I'm wondering if something is wrong here? Our lawn guy came over the other day and he said he'd never seen that before, but he's also never dealt with zoysia until he started working our yard two years ago!

  1. it’s what happens when it goes dormant

all the grass doesn’t go to sleep at the same rate, so that’s why it has the pattern

  2. Its just frost damage it’ll recover on its own after 4 to 8 weeks after it gets consistently warm again.

This happens to mine every year before it goes dormant with the first frost.

Every year, dozens of posts like this will pop up in this thread as everyone’s grass goes dormant. Make this a pinned post or ban it.

  5. It’s where the frost settled, It’ll be fine.
