Police in Elyria seized drugs and firearms, arresting two suspects, including a repeat offender, during a warranted search where two children were present.
ELYRIA, Ohio — Two people were arrested and large quantities of drugs and firearms were seized during the execution of a search warrant at an Elyria home on Friday, police announced.
According to a release, detectives with the Elyria Police Department arrested Dominic Strader, 22, and Makayla Myers, 25, following an investigation at a residence in the 1100 block of Garden Street.
Strader was initially taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals’ Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force on an outstanding warrant issued through the Lorain Police Department, police said. During the arrest, task force officers observed firearms and a large quantity of marijuana inside the residence and notified Elyria police detectives.
According to authorities, Strader is prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior violent offense convictions. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the home and seized two firearms — one of which was reported stolen — along with heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl pills, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, packaging materials and U.S. currency.
Police said investigators recovered approximately 30 grams of heroin, 11 grams of methamphetamine, 10 grams of cocaine, 376 fentanyl pills and about two pounds of marijuana packaged in various quantities.

Strader was charged with multiple felony offenses, including having weapons under disability, receiving stolen property, trafficking in drugs and possession of controlled substances. Several of the drug trafficking charges include juvenile specifications, authorities said.
Myers, the listed tenant of the residence, was charged with permitting drug abuse and misdemeanor endangering children. Police said two minor children were present in the home at the time the search warrant was executed. Due to the location of firearms and narcotics inside the residence, Myers was additionally charged, and arrangements were made for the children to be released to a family member.
“This case is a strong example of how coordinated enforcement efforts and information-sharing directly contribute to removing illegal firearms, dangerous fugitives and narcotics from our neighborhoods,” said Elyria Police Capt. Bill Lantz in a statement.
