Vicky Bakery is now open in Palm Beach Gardens.

Palm Beach Gardens has a new mecca for people who love Cuban treats.

Vicky Bakery, South Florida’s staple Cuban bakery chain, opened at a storefront along North Military Trail near Northlake Boulevard on Feb. 11, said Cynthia Romo, the store’s owner. The Vicky Bakery is tucked in the same shopping plaza as PikNik, a sandwich shop and small-batch French bakery.

The story has been “very busy” since it opened, Romo said.

This is Vicky Bakery’s fifth location in Palm Beach County, with the others in Boca Raton, Boynton Beach, Palm Springs and Royal Palm Beach.

Vicky Bakery, a family-owned business, was founded by Antonio and Gelasia Cao in Miami in 1972. The couple fell in love more than 50 years ago while working at a bakery in Cuba. They moved to Miami as political exiles and saved enough money to purchase a bakery in Hialeah, according to the Vicky Bakery website.

That became the first Vicky Bakery. It has grown to more than 25 locations since then.
