LAFD Tribute Saiz Featherboard Phoenix
Firefighter Phoenix Featherboard stands as an homage to the bravery and sacrifice of the Los Angeles firefighters who battled the January 2025 Eaton and Palisades fires that devastated parts of our city.
This sculpture, crafted from hand-carved skateboards transformed into “SAIZ Featherboards,” symbolizes rebirth, resilience, and community spirit. The phoenix, rising from the ashes, represents Los Angeles and its firefighters — lifting each other up through strength, unity, and compassion and most of all bravery.
Created by Los Angeles native artist Steve Saiz, this artwork reminds us that even in destruction, beauty and hope can emerge through courage and the collective heart of those who protect us.

Saiz Featherboard King Baller
Saiz Featherboard King Baller, created by Los Angeles Native Artist Steve Saiz, is inspired by the high-flying spirit of the Los Angeles Clippers and the soulful essence of basketball itself. This sculpture celebrates the thrill, creativity, and freedom found both on the court and in street culture.
Crafted from hand-carved skateboards, each piece transforms into “Featherboards”—symbolic wings capturing the elevation and fluid motion of basketball’s most electrifying moments. The sculpture’s form mirrors the lift of a player rising for a slam dunk, embodying the joy, rhythm and fun of the game of basketball.
At its heart, King Baller Featherboard is a tribute to the artistry of movement — where sport, craft, and culture collide, soaring together in celebration of basketball’s limitless energy and imagination.
About Steve Saiz
Steve Saiz is a renowned artist and professional skateboarder from Los Angeles. In the 1980s, Steve rose to fame as a member of Powell Peralta’s legendary Bones Brigade, skate team alongside Tony Hawk, Steve Caballero, Lance Mountain and other Brigade members…
Of Comanche descent, Steve infuses his Native American heritage into his colorful artistic style. Beyond traditional canvas painting and designing, Steve has also made a name for himself with his designs on “Comanche SAIZ Featherboards” – Combining his pro skateboarding and Comanche heritage with his hand-crafted skateboards carved as feathers symbolize the ying spirit of each board and it’s rider.
In his painting and design work he’s known for his portraits featuring vibrant fluorescent and pastel colors created using oil paints.
Whether on a board, canvas or sculpture, Steve Saiz transports viewers with his unique vision, bringing brightness and cultural pride to all his creative works.
