As per reports, his hands and legs were tied with ropes, and his body had injury marks caused by sharp weapons. According to police, the body was found in a bloodied condition.
The victim’s body was noticed by some locals around 10 am. Law enforcement officers reached the spot and recovered the body after being informed. While locals speculated that the death could be linked to the elections, police said there is no evidence so far.
Ratan’s elder brother, Laxman, said the family had been searching for him since Tuesday night. He said they were informed in the morning that a body was lying in the garden and were later called to identify him. The family said they do not know the reason behind the murder.
Ratan is the second Hindu person reportedly killed since Monday, February 9. The incident comes amid reports of attacks on minority community, especially Hindus, following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in August 2024.
The South Asia Forum for Freedom of Religion Belief said in a statement that there have been at least 15 targeted murders of Hindus in a 45-day period.
