Backround: Last summer we had a landscaping company come in to do our lawn. It’s about 10ksqft. They put in top soil and hydroseeded on top. I usually would have DIY but I wanted it done quickly and right the first time so we payed a fortune to have it done. Needless to say it was not done quickly. Months of rescheduling. Not the biggest deal ever but they came in and hydroseeded same day as a big storm. A lot of the hydroseed washed out or clumped together. They tried to come fix it once at least the worst spots but again it rained and poured. The lawn still came in but it’s in all these clumps basically asking for anymore heavy rains to wash out more dirt and ruin more. And makes a great place for weeds to come in. I understand contractors can’t control the weather so they have no obligation to fix it and I don’t expect them or want the to. but it does suck when you spend a ton of money on something and it doesn’t meet expectations.sorry for ranting

TLDR: got a hydroseed lawn last year and excessive rain made it come in shitty. Overall not terrible especially when it grows out but lots of bad areas

Question. Going into this year should I

1: bring in more topsoil and overseed. Focusing on thinner areas.

2: see how another season goes and let the grass that is growing fill in naturally

3: Other options I don’t know about?

Here are some photos of the hydro seed after rain and how the lawn turned out. I tried to fix the worst spots myself.

What’s your irrigation setup? Seems like it would be pretty easy to just overseed the barer areas. Pretty little investment. To do it best yes cover/rake seed in with top soil. Looks like some erosion too so you may want to try to level those spots out again as you’re doing this. Concerned you may have some drainage issues in your yard thougj but maybe it was just crazy rains, like you said.
