Last night I had a headache but went to fertilize my seedlings for this year for the first time since they have 1-2 sets of true leaves.

I scaled the dose of 2 Tbsp per gallon down to 1/2 Tbsp per quart, but then forgot to do the added dilution to make it 1/4 strength, which is what is recommended for seedlings. Should I just water them deeply several times today to try to flush? Or will they be okay? (They are mostly peppers with some leafy greens and dill.)

Feeling flustered today and could use some advice. Thank you!

I think they’ll be just fine. If I understand correct, fish fertilizer needs microbes in the soil to break it down in order for the nutrients to become bioavailable to the plants. This means you shouldn’t get any fertilizer burn like you would if you’d made this same mistake with a synthetic fertilizer.

I’m not a fertilizer expert by any means so I welcome someone with more knowledge to chime in, but I’m fairly certain this is at least fairly close to being the truth.

Yes, flush with your properly diluted solution & up your airflow to help with some evaporation.
Because it’s only nitrogen in the fish fertilizer, you may be perfectly fine. Phosphorous burn is so much worse!

  3. Yes, gently flush them a few times and they will be fine. Seed starting soil should drain quite freely so dont worry about drowning them

The smell will be worse than the problems it causes for the seedlings, most likely. You MAY get a little curling. If you see bad curling, then worry about flushing.
