Are there any techniques to encourage branched growth like this?

Not really. Philodendrons really don’t like having more than one main stem.

All you can really do is keep chopping the top off and hope the plant branches

Pruning can produce branching, but does not always. Some people swear by using keiki paste on growth points further down the vine, but I’ve personally never got it to do much for me.

There’s one kind of philodendron that does that all the time – the Burle Marx – but in general they just don’t like to grow in a branching manner. If you want a fuller plant, the best way is to just have multiple vines growing in the same pot.

I’ll hijack this post to ask a related question. I have a Philodendron Splendid, a Monstera and a Thai Con that have all branches into two stems. They’re all in moss poles with grow lights and thriving, but I’m afraid that because of the second stems, the main ones might start to suffer? Will the plant split resources and my main stem will produce smaller leaves or will grow/mature less fast?

Easy get Bap 2mg/L mix with your fertilizer. Note it can be best to dose agin after auxiliary buds start showing growth ( maybe, 30% of time the plant aborted new shoots after only dosing once). I’d hit once’s per week or 2 until buds get second leaf starting to form. It only happened to me once ,but I had one abort right before new leaf started hardening off. You can get pre mixed BAP on plant cell technology it’s around 18-20$ and will have enough to try on a few different plants.
