hey! so I have a few carnivorous plants… some vft, sarracenia, nepenthes, drosera…. im disabled and i enjoy this hobby. relaxing and I find them fascinating!
I've been wanting a Heliamphora (sun pitchers for awhile ever since I learned about Heliamphora ionasi (my dream plant). I noticed the conditions (temp/lighting) is a bit different than what's normally loved by carnivorous plants… which leads to thise post…
any suggestions on which Heliamphora would be the best choice to add to my collection? Ideally id like one that doesn't have a wide top lip like sarracenia… elive found a few I liked but theyre always sold out!
thank you and happy feedings!

You want a hybrid. Any mix between heterodoxa, minor, and nutans will work well. The pure species tend to be a lot more picky; much like other hybrids, widening the genetic pool improves their adaptability.
That being said, Heliamphoras can still be tricky—they need high light and temperatures below 85˚F during the day and below 70˚F at night. They can adjust to lower humidity, but that takes time and patiences (i.e. leaving them in a plastic bag and punching a new hole in the bag every few days until they’ve adjusted to your environment’s humidity). Once their conditions are stable, they’ll flourish. But expect the first few months to be constant monitoring.
