The Seward County Saints and Garden City Broncbusters renewed their rivalry in the Green House Wednesday night. The Broncbusters won their sixth straight game in Liberal taking a 77-76 decision over the heartbroken Saints and their fans.
The Broncbusters jumped all over the Saints early taking a 13-2 lead. The Busters led 20-13 at the second media timeout and 26-21 with 7:36 remaining. The Saints cut the lead to 29-26 before the Busters went ahead 33-26. It was 36-32 Garden City at the half. The Busters wasted no time taking a 42-33 lead at the 16:25 mark. The Saints cut the lead to 45-44. The Saints finally took a 51-49 lead with 10 minutes remaining. The Saints led 69-64 with 3:47 remaining and 71-65 with 3:19 to go. GCCC rallied to tie the game at 71-71 with 2 minutes to play. The Saints scored to lead 73-71 with 1:30 remaining. Hugoton native Desean Lewis gave the Broncbusters the lead with 45.6 seconds left at 74-73. The Busters would never trail again.
The Black Hills Energy Player of the Game is Lucas N’Gombo with 15 points and six rebounds. Antonio Williams Jr. and RJ McKinnie scored 13 a piece. JJ Chapman had 11.
The Saints shot 49 percent making 2-12 from three and 20-35 from the foul line for 57 percent. Garden City shot 44 percent from the field making 9-22 from three for 41 percent and 20-32 from the foul line for 63 percent. Seward led p
