A shocking murder in a tea plantation in northeastern Bangladesh has sent waves of fear across Moulvibazar district just hours before the country heads to the polls. Authorities recovered the body of a young tea worker with his hands and feet tied, raising serious concerns about safety and law and order on the eve of a crucial national election.
Residents discovered the body early Wednesday morning inside the Champara Tea Garden in Kamalganj upazila, nearly 190 kilometres from Dhaka. They immediately informed police, who reached the scene around 10 am.
Officers found the victim lying in a bloodied condition. His hands and feet were tightly bound, and visible injury marks covered his body. Police treated the case as a suspected homicide and launched an investigation.

Family members said Ratan had gone missing the previous night. When he did not return home, they began searching for him across the area. His elder brother, Laxman Kar, described the family’s shock after learning about the discovery.
“This morning, we were informed that his body was lying in the garden. We went there and identified him. We do not know why he was killed,” he said. The family said Ratan had no known disputes or conflicts that could explain such a violent end.
