howdy!

had to delete my last post due to user error but thanks for all the feedback. so I've narrowed my decision down to metal over the wood.

I read online (reviewed a post about especially the HD bed) of manufacturer advised against planting vegetables in their raised garden beds.

trying to not to overthink this, and keep budget (under $100) but I see all these brands that prob come from the same maker, should I be concerned on the Amazon galv releasing chemicals Into the soil of the garden?

coating vs silver galvanized thoughts? I figured the silver could absorb heat and the silver could reflect and possibly damage something near by. iwas gouing to pay extra for the HD Veikious but if they are all the same….why lol.

I'm sure this has been asked before and apologies, just want to get this project going. lol

I think the coated/painted stuff will hold up to rust longer than galvanized. I’ve never heard concerns about chemicals with these types of beds.

Honestly I built my beds out of pavestones. Made a kind of retaining wall.

theres nothing in these i’d worry about. i have some Vego beds, some cedar beds and beds i built out of treated 2x6s. it all works as long as its in your budget and working toward your goals as a gardener.

I have a couple Veikous ones, some of the Land Guard ones, and lots of the cheaper Amazon ones. I have the taller beds so there is a ton of soil in them. They’ve all held up for a few years now and are pretty sturdy. I don’t plant right up against the edge of the bed, so I’m not too concerned about chemicals getting into my veggies. I’m in Ohio and haven’t had an issue with them getting too warm.

The Joe Gardener Show did an updated podcast about garden bed materials that might be worth a listen. It was episode 451.

  5. So having bought a couple years ago some Amazon “Chineseium” raised garden beds that were allegedly galvanized… Turns out they were not. I would absolutely steer clear of anything from a rando Chinese company.

I learned pretty quickly that most of these brands unless they’re a US/Canadian/UK/Aussie-based company or the products are actually made in one of those countries, they’re sus.

I actually went from raised bed to Hügelkultur beds. Less aesthetically appealing, but way way easier and lower cost.

Now I’ve never personally owned these but they’re one of the only brands that seems to stand behind the safety of their metals and the durability of the beds. They are pricey but it’s kind of one of those buy once cry once if you’re dedicated to the whole raised bed set up.
